Fortin’s Excavating has the tools to complete any job, no matter what size. Anything from removing a small slab of concrete in a residential backyard to clearing trees for a new highway, we have you covered!
Excavation
Preparing sites for new buildings, structures, swimming pools, ponds, manmade lakes or ditches. Excavating under established houses for new foundations or basements. Land clearing and landscaping for houses, high rises, or creek bed enhancements. Excavating for French drains, septic fields, sewer lines, sumps or water lines.
Demolition
Our demolitions are safe, clean and efficient. We have skilled operators who have the finesse to do partial demolitions without damaging the portions you intend on keeping intact. Demolition services include various sized structures and buildings including houses, barns, garages, warehouses, swimming pools, docks and piers, silos, train stations, concrete and blacktop removal.
Comprehensive Project Management
Over the years we have developed professional relationships with various contractors and specialized sub-trades. We offer comprehensive project management services from inception to completion of jobs that require multiple specialty trades. We are reliable, organized, efficient, fully insured and covered by WorkSafeBC. We have built our reputation on taking on the difficult jobs and always exceeding expectations. Trucking & Recycling
Our trucks and trailers allow us to move all of our machines safety to each job site. We also have the capability to remove and correctly recycle or dispose of all materials. We work with drywall, land clearing (trees and stumps), metals (appliances, roofing, beams, fencing and oil tanks), dirt or organic soil, concrete (with rebar), or wood waste (soft wood, pallets, milled ends).
Backfilling, Slab Prep & Pre-Loading
Sites are prepared, backfilled and leveled with precision using machines, manpower, soil, sand and gravel. Backfilling is necessary for foundations, landscaping, and filling voids. By using different types of soil, sand and other materials we can achieve the optimum desired characteristics for proper drainage, weight, and other considerations.
Landscaping & Rockwork
We are highly skilled working with landscape designers and architects. We take care when planning for and placing materials for ponds, water features, rock walls, retaining walls, and creek beds. We ensure protection from ocean erosion and we will remove, transplant and recycle trees, stumps and brush.
ABOUT
A family run business from the start, Fern Fortin launched Fortin’s Excavating and began its operations in the early 1950’s. The business started by offering sawdust delivery to residents of the Lower Mainland to heat their homes. At that time, Fern had two pieces of equipment: a bulldozer and dump truck.

With the introduction of heating oil and natural gas, sawdust became obsolete and Fern Fortin needed to reinvent his business. He saw the opportunity to use the equipment he already had to demolish buildings and excavate building sites. Fern hired his nephew, Chris Bauder, to assist with this new line of work.
In 1977, Chris purchased the busy little business from his uncle and has been the sole owner/operator since. Fortin’s Excavating now employs four family members, has a number of trucks and trailers designed to carry all sorts of products and materials. The company prides itself on being adaptable and versatile while providing cost effective and efficient services to its customers of the Lower Mainland.
